Why we do not judge by download speed alone

Online games usually need far less bandwidth than video streaming, but they are sensitive to timing. A fast plan can still feel bad when jitter, packet loss, bufferbloat or route instability appears. PingKiller’s goal is to help players test the part of the connection that affects the match.

How we treat affiliate recommendations

Limitations of browser-based gaming tests

Quality policy for PingKiller recommendations

If the symptom points to Wi‑Fi, bufferbloat, packet loss inside the home, low FPS or server overload, the guide should say that first. How to interpret the result after the test

A good PingKiller result should be read as a snapshot of connection behavior, not as a permanent label on your internet. If the median is low and the worst sample is close to the median, the route is probably consistent. The most useful comparison is before versus after. Run the baseline, change one thing, then run the same test again. Examples of one change include switching to Ethernet, pausing uploads, testing another server region, enabling router SQM, changing a route optimizer node, or closing a background app. A result is meaningful when the same change improves repeated samples in the time window where the problem usually happens.

Why server choice is part of the diagnosis

Server ms is shaped by distance, routing, peering and game infrastructure. The nearest-looking region is often a strong choice, but it is not guaranteed to be the most stable. A slightly farther region can sometimes have cleaner routing, lower jitter or fewer packet-loss bursts. This is why PingKiller added recommended-server guidance: the goal is not only to show a low number, but to help players compare regions with enough context to avoid choosing a server that looks close but behaves poorly.

When a game offers manual server selection, test two or three candidate regions using the same conditions. When a game hides server selection behind matchmaking, collect repeated results by time window. The pattern matters more than one match. If one region is always unstable at night and another is stable with only a small ping increase, the stable region may be the better competitive choice.

When not to use a paid tool yet

PingKiller may link to route optimizers, but the methodology intentionally delays that recommendation until the route is likely to be the problem. Do not test paid tools first when packet loss appears to your router, Wi‑Fi fixes the issue, loaded latency is terrible, the game is clearly FPS-limited, or the publisher is experiencing a regional outage. Baseline routine
